Personal Training

pregnancy personal trainingMany pregnant women come to me desperate to know how they should be exercising in pregnancy in order to keep their baby safe and to protect their bodies and stay strong and healthy in pregnancy.

Unfortunately most women are scared to do more than some gently walking, swimming or yoga in pregnancy for fear of hurting their babies, or themselves.

But there really is no reason to be scared and research tells us, time and time again, that exercise in pregnancy isn’t just important, it’s vital to you and your baby.

And here are a few of the reasons why:

It reduces:

  • feelings of nausea,
  • fatigue,
  • swelling in the limbs,
  • the length of labour,
  • the likelihood of birth complications,
  • pregnancy-induced hypertension,
  • urinary incontinence,
  • excessive weight gain,
  • deep vein thrombosis,
  • the likelihood of medical intervention in delivery,
  • insomnia,
  • diastasis recti (the separation of the stomach muscles),
  • maternal psychological disorders like depression,
  • muscle imbalances,
  • leg cramps,
  • constipation,
  • varicose veins,
  • haemorrhoids,
  • back pain,
  • gestational diabetes

And if that wasn’t enough, exercise in pregnancy has been found to improve:

  • maternal posture,
  • wellbeing,
  • self esteem,
  • energy levels,
  • recovery time after birth,
  • placental growth,
  • foetal growth and blood flow
