Golden Milk aka Turmeric Tea is something that I’ve been wanting to make for ages now.
So I’ve been playing around with this recipe because I wanted to get a great, creamy taste whilst keeping the perfect levels of turmeric. And I think I’ve done it. Hurray!
So what is golden milk and what’s all the fuss about? Well golden milk is basically a turmeric tea. Apparently turmeric tea has been drunk for thousands of years for its healing properties. Adding turmeric into your diet is vital, this powerful spice supports digestion, immune function, the liver, and is even thought to offer protection from some types of cancer. That’s one powerful spice! Add to that the health benefits of cinnamon and coconut oil and you have one very nutritious and tasty winter warmer.
There’s no conclusive evidence to suggest that turmeric is safe or unsafe in pregnancy but as turmeric has been linked to uterine stimulation it’s best to avoid it before being 37 weeks pregnant. On the other hand turmeric is a brilliant spice to eat whilst breastfeeding as it boosts your immunity, it also helps to reduce breast inflammation which can prevent mothers from being able to properly breast feed, it can also help prevent join pains, and indigestion. Although turmeric is a great spice to enjoy whilst breastfeeding it’s important to take the spice with food rather than as a supplement as the supplement may provide too much of the spice and have adverse side-effects in a nursing mumma.
Even Ava, my 2 year old, likes this hot drink. Try having a mug first thing in the morning twice a week.
1 cup organic milk
3 tablespoons coconut cream
1/2 tablespoon coconut oil
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp maple syrup
1 pinch black pepper
Put all the ingredients into a small saucepan
Turn on a low heat
Whisk the ingredients together and allow to heat for 3-4 minutes
Drink and bathe your cells in goodness!
